Renault racer Jarno Trulli against constant changes in Formula One, says it creates confusion
Italian Formula One racing driver, Jarno Trulli has opposed constant rule-changes made by the FIA.
“People at home want to understand, and if we carry on changing the regulations every year we are just creating confusion,” the 36-year old said.
He noted that each time a rule is changed; it puts considerable financial drain on the smaller teams. He added that it has a cost for the fans too:
“A spectator can't always be chasing the changing regulations, like refueling, number of pit stops, F-duct and KERS,” he said.
The Italian driver was skeptical about the moveable rear wing; he is doubtful whether it will be useful in over-taking or will simply create more confusion in the cockpit.
“Are we sure there will be more overtaking, as many people say? I'd wait for the first races to really understand how everything works,” he questioned.
He added that he hasn’t had the chance to test it in race conditions yet, only after which it can be ascertained if it is a positive development or something they could have done without.
Another major concern for Trulli was the new Pirelli rubber. The tyres have been designed to wear quickly enough for drivers to have to make two pit-stops in each race and Trulli believes the rubber is inconsistent.
“In my opinion tyre wear is secondary compared to the tyre's balance problems, because at the moment you get on the track with a new tyre that initially is understeering, and after three laps the behavior is the opposite that is impossible oversteering,”
he said.
He is not the first racer to show reservations over the Pirelli tyres. World champion Sebastian Vettel noted that the new tyres leave a lot of rubber 'marbles' off the racing line, which would make overtaking difficult.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso believes that the tyres will be the biggest factor to overtaking. Red Bull's Mark Webber shares Alonso’s opinions but is unsure if it will automatically make Grand Prix more exciting.
