The Renault Team seem to have got some pace 2nd and fourth fastest in practice, I know its only practice but the last few races they have brought home points. Suppose quali 2moro will tell us there true pace for this weekend.

Do you think they will have the pace to be up there with Mclaren and Ferrari this weekend?

  1. We won't know for sure until qualifying, but they certainly weren't expecting to be so far up the grid as they were today.

The important thing is Piquet being in front of Alonso, which tells me he's got the hang of F1 at last.

A Renault on the podium looks possible, points should be the minimum requirement for both drivers this weekend.

  2. They won't be on Ferrari/McLaren pace but they could well be the next best thing. Renaults main problem as far as I can see is that their engine is a little weak, but as Hungary that shouldn't matter too much.

Hopefully Alonso can sneak a podium in the next few races, I have a bet on saying he'll get his first podium before the end of the season!

  3. As we can saw from past grand prix renault with alonso in several times had the speed in qualifications to be up with Ferrari,Mclaren and BMW but always in the race it seems to be one step behind the three teams I said above plus Toyoto. This is due to  technical problems and strategy but if the do not fixed them I do not think so.

  4. Probably. It's not all about the race though. They could blow it in the race with technical difficulties. Hope they don't though. They are a really good team. What do you think? Do you think that they will have the speed?

  5. well alonso said that the engine freeze has not helped them and they are struggling. i don't know if this was said after the times were posted or before. but alonso said that he will wait. they have been quite fast in quali, but i believe that is to light fuel load.

  6. ya it seems renaults have got some pace...looking at the 2nd practise session timings Nelsinho piquet came 2nd behind lewis hamilton....and alonso came 4th in the classification....so i think they have some pace here......but again....practise sessions live upto its name usually ..teams run diffrent setups and are experimenting with the setups...usually..most of the teams are actually just testing their new things...and parts(eg-force india-seamless shift gearbox).......so u cannot predict any thing........as of now ....i dont think ferrari's maybe sitting behind those renaults.....even if they qualify ahead(dont think so it may happen)they will finally lose positions in the long run.....fernando alonso just to keep his status as world champion always prefers to keep his car low on fuel during qualifying and to get some good positions...cause he knows even if he starts with a lot of fuel any strategy wont help that renault to the top.....better get a good qualifying position........but the qualifying position is quite crucial at hungary though....-but all the teams know this.......;-[]

  7. Yes I do think they have upped their pace.  I hope they finish in front of the Ferraris again as that would do the most for the title chases.

  8. I think that the Renault guys aren't going to be doing great in the next race, but most of the prep for this grand prix is done so they should be fine in Hungary. Did you hear about Millar?

  9. They certainly are showing good progress, but I still have doubts that either of the drivers will finnish in front of McLaren or Ferrari just yet.

  10. ya definitly think that they will have the pace

  11. Renult f1 has already admited that the where running low on fuel. the reson beeing the graining on the tire has been severe today and the didnt want to run the car to heavy on fuel.

i think they have made a step foward during the last two testing but they are still to far behind the big 3. for sure they will be racing with the midfield teams : Toyota, Redbull, Williams.

It seems to me the McLaren is running at an outrageoust pace that even Ferrari cant match. so i see McLaren up front, follow by Ferrari not to far from BMW (witch i spect a turn around from the last couple of races) follow by a mad battle of the midfilders.

i hope it will be a great race. GO FERRARI!!!!!!

    ENJOY

  12. They won't be up there with the red or silver cars this week or any week this year.  It's just not realistic to think they could leapfrog BMW, Toyota and the RBR team in the span of two weeks no matter how many new parts they get. I mean, how many times have wee seen a team like Renault, Redbull or Force India top the timesheets during practice and not even get past Q1 or Q2 on a saturday.

  13. Hmmm, maybe. Renault have made a small step forward where BMW, Toyota and Red Bull have stagnated a little.

Alonso has given the car around 3 tenths a lap more than it deserves most of the season, especially in qualifying.

Piquet is getting the hang of F1 now, though the 2nd place was a little lucky at Germany.

Hopefully the R 28 can start to pull its weight ready for the 2009 season.
