Renault team boss Eric Boullier says that it is too soon to suggest Kubica’s return
The Renault team prinicpal, Eric Boullier, has said that Kubica has just started his recovery and it will be too early to predict his return to the Formula one grid. Boullier said that, although Kubica surprised everyone with his quick recovery, it will
still be some time before he leaves the bed and joins the team.
Robert Kubica, Renault driver and Valencia test’s fastest man, was injured in a Rally crash in Italy. He injured his hand severely and was also treated for an injured leg and elbow. Initial threats were that he might lose his hand or his mental recovery
will be a question mark. Fortunately, not only he is mentally fit, he has also kept on saying that he will be in the driving seat half way through the 2011 season. This is similar to what he was able to accomplish after the 2007 Canadian Grand prix crash.
His Doctors said that he will need at least a year to fully recover and now Boullier also thinks that he may need that time to completely recover.
Boullier said, “He's progressed very well, and his recovery is going as well as you would dream when in that state. It's still very early, he's just started his rehabilitation this week, and the hand and the elbow are two tricky parts that got injured in
the accident.” He added that Kubica is anxious to get out of bed and start training as soon as possible, so that he gets his Renault seat back, but the hard reality is that Kubica’s recovery will take a little bit more time than the 2007 crash.  Boullier further
said that nevertheless Kubica did surprise everybody with his quick recovery, he said, “He surprised everybody at the hospital in Italy. All the doctors came to me and said they were amazed about how his mental state could be so strong.”
Renault team has already announced Kubica’s replacement, a 33-year old German driver, Nick Heidfeld, who will drive alongside the less experienced Vitaly Petrov. Both these drivers are supposed to drive the whole season, as Kubica’s recovery and rehabilitation
has created a question mark in Boullier’s mind. The season will start in Australia on the 27th of the March.
