Renault’s Bruno Senna admits to weakness in car, but optimistic for Korea – Formula 1 news
Renault’s driver Bruno Senna is feeling confident that his team’s strategy to this weekend’s Korean Grand Prix will give them a solid base to perform much better than they did in Japan last weekend.
Senna does not want his team to focus on big setup changes rather will try to work on getting results with consistency.
“We have been very seriously discussing the need to get everything ready as soon as possible on Friday in terms of having a car that behaves properly,” said Senna. “We need to chip away and find the limit instead of making massive changes. Finding the right
set-up window is very important. We have been outside of the window a few times so more effort needs to put into this.”
“This will help us to achieve much better performance from the car during the weekend. We are aiming for this and the way that we are starting this weekend is potentially much better than the way we started last weekend,” he added.
However, Senna did mention that the Yeongam circuit is not suited to the Renault car which features a unique forward exhaust which has not fared well at sharp corners.
The Yeongam circuit has a blend of fast turns and slow corners, which will mean the forward exhaust will come into play and may prove to be their weakness. Realising this, Senna also said that their car will face a tough challenge.
He took some optimism from the fact that they understand the limits of their car and know what problems they could face on the circuit. The practice runs will give them a clearer picture to their standing very soon. They will try to fight those problems
and are considering it to be a very tight battle.
It would be interesting to see how they fare come this weekend. The action begins with the first practice session on Friday, October 14, 2011.
