Renault’s newly hired Chief Operating Officer Carlos Tavares has stated that the company has all the potential and talent to become a success in Formula 1, despite pulling out from the sport as a team at the start of the 2011 season.
After seeing the race in Silverstone earlier in July 2011, Carlos stated that Renault has the potential and passion for Formula 1 cars and will remain in the sport for a long time. Carlos added that Renault will also try to transform the technology to the
road cars as well.
Although Renault pulled out from the sport before the 2011 season but still they supply engine to three Formula 1 teams, Lotus Renault, Red Bull Racing and Lotus GP. Carlos thinks that by only supplying engines, Renault can do wonders as they have the potential.
Carlos stated, “I only waited six days from when I started this job before coming to a race as I believe there is a great passion for cars and motorsport within the Renault Group. It's crucial and we are very careful to nurture the talent we have at Viry-Chatillon.”
Williams have stated that they will be moving to Renault from the 2012 season after a poor start to the 2011 season so Renault will have four customers.
Commenting on the V6 turbo engines for the 2014 Formula 1 season, Carlos stated that his company is well inclined towards the downsizing of the engines and will do their best to keep their clients happy.
He said, “This was one of the conditions explained to our teams for us to be in F1, and it still applies. Renault has always had an ability to innovate. Therefore this 'downsizing' we've put all our support behind is perfectly aligned.”
Carlos also added that Renault will do everything they can to make the planet greener. He added that Renault will try to make the best of the opportunity and capture market in Formula 1 arena with V6 technology.
