Renault’s Nick Heidfeld dissatisfied by supersoft tyres in Monaco Grand Prix FP2 – Formula 1 news
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld is not satisfied by running on supersoft tyres in the second practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix.
He was utterly surprised by the lack of speed at being two seconds slower than the leader, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
Despite his unimpressive performance in practice session 2, the German is fully prepared to get into the top seat rankings in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
He told the reporters, “I am [surprised] because coming here the team thought that we would be able to fight at the front and although we will still try to do that I can't see where we should find two seconds.”
The lack of pace between Alonso and him has come as a vicious blow to the Renault team. He informed that his poor start to the Monaco race weekend was due to the supersoft Pirelli tyres. In addition, the team did not find a good lap time ahead after getting
on the supersoft rubber.
Before the start of the weekend, the 34-year-old driver was hopeful that these tyres can easily be handled by them but unfortunately, he did not find a perfect balance on the supersoft compounds.
After running on these compounds in the practice sessions, he claims that there is a huge difference between soft and supersoft tyres.
Despite the poor start in the sixth round of the season, they believe that they are still able to compete with strong teams.
Heidfeld said, “It is too early to say because we still have to analyse the data from today to see what strategies we might use or what possibilities there are, because it is the first time we are using the super-soft tyres and at the moment we really don't
know.”
The team believes that there is more to come from their drivers, Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov in the remaining races. However, for this they need to improve in the qualifying rounds of the remaining races of the season.
