Renault’s Nick Heidfeld frustrated due to Lotus Renault GP's reliability issues - Formula 1
Lotus Renault GP’s latest addition Nick Heidfeld has recently stated that he is frustrated by the mileage he is unable to attain due to the reliability issues his car is going through during the pre-season test sessions.
He claims that his lack of overall running is a concern for the team but hopes that the team solves the reliability issues before the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on the 27th of March.
The team recently chose Nick Heidfeld as a replacement for Robert Kubica, who went through a terrible accident during a rally event over a month ago and as a result, he is not going to be a part of the team for the 2011 Formula 1 season. Heidfeld tested
for the team at the third pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona a fortnight ago.
“I'm not happy. You are only happy if you don't have any problems. We have had too many, which cost us too much testing time, which is crucial this year with such limited running and new systems and new tyres. On the other side, the positive thing is that
none of those problems look as if we cannot solve them before the first race,” Heidfeld admitted to journalists.
He is pretty confident that the team will make some major improvements to the car’s performance this week and accomplish its goals by the end of the final pre-season test session.
“We already have some new parts on the car today; we have a new floor and a new rear wing. That's what I tried this morning,” he said.
Heidfeld also believes that Red Bull Racing Team is the favorite team for the 2011 Formula 1 season according to the current situation but Ferrari is not far away either.
McLaren on the other hand is struggling but the team is hoping to get on level terms with Ferrari and Red Bull Racing team, however, according to Jenson Button, it is not going to be possible until the season opening Australian Grand Prix.
