Renaults’ Robert Kubica: I know I am not in good shape – Formula 1 news
Renault’s injured driver Robert Kubica has updated media outlets on his current condition.
His statement mentioned that he knows he is not in a good condition at the moment following his horrific accident in a rally race.
The Polish driver’s right hand was severely injured in a rally accident held in the early part of the month February.
Kubica was airlifted to the Santa Corona hospital, where he underwent two or three surgeries. After his first surgery, Dr. Rossello was satisfied with Kubica’s condition. He told the media that Robert’s right hand is in an optimal condition now, after his complex surgery.
The doctors stated that Renault’s driver condition is now considered as positive, as he is improving quickly from his injuries. In addition, they said that he is making good health progress.
Dr.Rossello was hopeful after the final surgery of his right hand. He added. “He no longer needs intensive care so he has begun the rehabilitation process. He is now in his own large room so that he is as comfortable as possible. He’s no longer in pain and his psychological condition is pretty good. He’s obviously keen to start the rehabilitation work as soon as possible.”
The Santa Corona’s spinal unit Chief Antonino Massone talked about Kubica’s condition and admitted, “There are milestones to be met, and his journey will be long.”
He went on to say, “For a month, there is the risk of infection. When a bone is exposed for 45 minutes, as it was in this case, it is attacked by bacteria and we need to treat it with antibiotics.”
Kubica is still under observation of doctors and physiotherapists.
Robert Kubica missed second and third pre-season tests of 2011, as he was not able to take part in the both practice sessions due to his crash.
However, team Renault appointed Nick Heidfeld for the test sessions in place of Kubica.
On the other hand, Kubica received 'get well soon' message from Formula 1 drivers, who were present at the Jerez and Barcelona test session.
Renault really missed Kubica’s driving in the both test sessions.
The doctors stated that Kubica needs to take up to 3 months of rest before stepping on the racetrack.
Other than doctors, the team are also hopeful for Kubica’s quick recovery and his eventual return to the squad.
On the other hand, Kubica considers lucky to himself as he went out from the serious condition after first three surgeries. He insisted, “I am facing a long and difficult rehabilitation, but I am not worried about that.”
It will be very interesting to see that how Kubica’s stand-in Nick Heidfeld performs for Renault in the 2011 Formula 1 season that is expected to take place on March 27, in Australia.
