Renault's Robert Kubica happy after third place finish at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium GP
Everything seems to be working out for Renault driver Robert Kubica. He is extremely satisfied after clinching the third spot at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa on Sunday.
Kubica’s stars shone brightly throughout race day as he was able to beat a number of fantastic cars and drivers. Kubica lost his opportunity to improve on a third spot finish owing to his own mistake. However, again all expectations, Kubica made a shockingly poor final pit stop, which allowed Red Bull driver Mark Webber to overtake him to finish at second place.
Still, Kubica left Spa-Francorchamps pleased and confident. The performance of his R30 was better than what many were expecting, largely because it ran with its F-duct system for the very first time.
“It was a really incredible race, but also a difficult one because of the changeable conditions and it was very easy to make mistakes,” Kubica opined while talking to Renault’s official website. Kubica further commented that normally, he does not make big mistakes on the track but the one made by him at Spa during his pit stop descended him down to the third place from his original second. However, he was happy to add that he is still satisfied with his third place finish as he has finally been able to stand on the podium after a long time.
Moreover, he expressed his gratitude towards the entire team that has worked really hard in the factory to hand him the car that had done a brilliant job this weekend at the tough track at Spa.
Renaults’ weekend in Belgium comes as an encouraging sign. Though the unsettled weather conditions offered some tough moments for Renault, yet they were able to stand out against strong competitors. Poland’s Robert Kubica was able to finish all three practice sessions in top positions which resulted in a third place finish on race day.
Watching the Renault driver give tough competition to McLaren and Red Bull came as a surprise package for the audiences.
“I’m really pleased about the performance of the car," Kubica stated. The car proved to be efficient in all weather conditions and that is very heartening for Renault.
The Renault driver was proud to say that finally, they got the F-duct on the car, after a long wait which worked wonders for the team. Kubica stated that these improvements in their pace was miraculous and the team is highly satisfied after month-long efforts.
The driver further said, “I was very happy to be fighting at the front with the big teams so let’s hope we can continue in this direction.”
After winning 15 points at Spa, Kubica has ascended to seventh place in the Drivers’ standings but remains at the fifth spot in the Constructors’ table; one place behind Mercedes GP with a difference of 23 points.
With this podium position, Kubica has made it to the podium for the third time this season. He grabbed second spot at the Australian Grand Prix along with a third spot finish at Monaco.
