The Montpellier Herault coach feels that the defending French champions should have done better against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday but is satisfied with a point against the league leaders
Montpellier struck late to deny PSG a chance to claim all three points on Sunday after Remy Cabella scored in the 60th minute of the game. PSG’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mamadou-Sakho-c23293 was sent off in the 10th minute of the game but La Paillade failed to capitalise
on that.
The defending champions were also reduced to 10 men after star player, Younes Belhanda, was shown a red card in the 65th minute of the game. But despite playing with an extra player for about an hour, the hosts failed to take full advantage of
the situation and were denied a much needed victory at home.
Montpellier coach, Rene Girard is satisfied with the result to some extent as he feels that playing against a team like Paris Saint-Germain is never easy. While talking to reporters, the 58-year-old stated that PSG are in tremendous form at the moment and
it was a tough match.
“Up against Paris Saint-Germain, you know they can create danger at any moment.”
Referring to Montpellier’s Champions League game against Olympiacos in the midweek, the Frenchman said that players were tired after the European game and they did pretty well at Stade de la Mosson against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. The coach feels that a point
against the Ligue 1 heavy spenders is a good result for his side and is looking forward to the upcoming games.
“Our midweek European game (against Olympiacos FC) had taken it out of us, but it's a good point for us.”
However, Girard feels that La Paillade had the ability to do more on the pitch and after PSG were reduced to 10 men, his side should have put more pressure on the opposing team which they failed to do so and were punished for that.
“The only criticism I made was at half-time was that with a man advantage, we hesitated too much between attacking and defending. We sat back too much, but the players got themselves back into the game, shook themselves up.”
