The Montpellier coach believes that the reigning French champions can still progress through to the next round of the Champions League following their impressive performance against Schalke on Wednesday
La Paillade came from behind to earn a valuable point at Veltins-Arena and the coach is pleased with Montpellier’s fighting spirit.
The visitors were reduced to ten men in Germany with 35 minutes to go. However, thanks to a well taken goal by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Souleymane-Camara-c33845, the reigning French champions managed to nick a draw, and kept their hopes of making an impact in the competition alive.
And coach, Rene Girard has praised the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 international for calmly firing past the Schalke goalkeeper.
While talking to ligue1.com after the game, the coach said it looked all domed and dark until Camara scored the equalizer. The 58-year-old added that he was expecting
Die Knappen's goalkeeper to stop that shot but luckily, he failed to do that.
“In the 88th, 89th minute you are thinking that it's not going to come. Only Souley (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camara-c8277) could do something like that! I saw him open his foot, but I thought the goalkeeper would touch it, because he's a big beanpole.”
Referring to his pre-match comments, Girard said that before the game he thought that a point in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 would be a good result for his side. And the 58-year-old is indeed pleased with the result and hopes to qualify for the next round of the competition.
“I said coming here that one point or three points would be good. I am very happy, because we are still in contention in the Champions League.”
The former Nimes coach added that it was only the second match of the competition and there are still few games to be played. Montpellier are still very much in the competition and players need to keep playing like they did against Schalke to get positive
results.
“There are still games to come, including two more against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Schalke but we need to keep believing.”
The reigning French champions are set to host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stade-Rennais-FC-c40612 at Stade de la Mosson, in their next game of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign.
