The French tactician was extremely displeased with his players for their poor performance, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montpellier-HSC-c39945 lost to Olympique de Marseille due to a late goal scored by Andre-Pierre Gignac.
Rene Girard was left disappointed as Montpellier Herault SC slumped to a defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 at the Stade Velodrome. The coach was fuming after his side failed to manage a victory, as they conceded two late goals, which eventually stripped
them of all three points.
Montpellier showed real character early in the game as they managed to make a stunning comeback against the host. The team did well throughout most of the game. However, they failed to perform during the final moments as they conceded two late goals, which
displeased the coach and fans alike.
Girard believes that Les Phoceens would not have been able to win if it wasn’t for the reigning champions’ poor display. The coach criticised his players in a harsh tone, as he has begun to loose patience with them. The former Nimes Olympiques coach said:
"We played like schoolboys. Marseille couldn't have scored without our help, we needed to help them a lot.”
The 58-year-old acknowledged the team’s good performance earlier in the game. However, his pleasure proved adamant as Montpellier failed to earn a single point, much less securing a victory at the Velodrome. The coach exclaimed:
“We did some good things, but lost the ball too much. I don't know what we were trying to do: score two, three, four goals more? I'm not happy at all. When we play the way we did and you lose, it's almost a sackable offence.”
Girard went on to highlight La Paillade’s poor performance in their last few fixtures. The French outfit was knocked-out of the Coupe de la Ligue semi-final at the hands of fellow Ligue 1 club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stade-Rennais-FC-c40612. The coach felt angered at his players for
slipping a golden opportunity to win silverware this season, as they’re already knocked-out of the UEFA Champions League and the Championnat is far beyond their grasp. The former Nimes Olympique player said:
“We conceded two at Rennes, three here, I can't be happy with that. We could have killed the game off long before we conceded the second, and in the end we lose.”
The coach hits out at his own team for displaying lacklustre in their performance. The Frenchman insisted that the team should have played intelligently instead of just doing what was working, as football is a dynamic game and situations change every now
and then. He said:
“Football requires a bit of brain power too. You have to show awareness and intelligence, and we showed neither.”
