Montpellier Herault showed great mental strength as the French side produced a stunning comeback against the hosts, Stade Brestois 29. The coach, Rene Girard was delighted with the team’s performance and credited the players for showing character, as the
team scored two goals, to bag all three points home in stunning fashion.
The Ligue 1 defending champions didn’t have a good start to the 2012/13 season, and have been struggling to regain the form they exhibited last season. La Paillade were only able to attain 11 points from their starting 10 games, which proved to be a disastrous
start for the reigning champions.
However, the Montpellier-based club seems to have regained its lost form, as the French outfit has only lost once in their previous games, and seems to be climbing the table steadily.
Rene Girard has emphasized the importance of the good form in the last few games that helped them build the momentum for exhibiting such level of determination and confidence. The coach said:
“It was important to build on our last six or seven results to get ourselves back into contention, and now we're not too far off fifth.”
The Frenchman also went on to praise his players, who showed nerves of steel. La Paillade fought back for securing a victory, despite falling behind to Brest at the Stade Francis-Le Ble. He credited the team while saying:
“It's encouraging, because we played well, and showed a lot of control on a tricky pitch. We went behind against the run of play, and we needed some help to equalise after missing chances.”
The 58-year-old also went on to credit the involvement of luck in their recent victory. Moreover, the former footballer has praised the team chemistry and the self-sacrificing made by his players, in order to secure the much needed victory. He said:
“The luck we've been lacking of late was with us, but you have to go looking for it. The boys didn't drop off, and showed a lot of self-sacrifice.”
