The Montpellier Herault coach is seemingly satisfied with the players he has at his disposal and has hinted that the club may not sign any more players after completing the arrival of Emanuel Herrera
Reigning French Ligue 1 champions, Montpellier Herault have managed a near perfect transfer window so far. Though the transfer market is still in its early days, La Paillade have already completed their dealings albeit if a good opportunity presents itself
in the last few days.
While talking to L’Equipe, Montpellier coach, Rene Girard expressed his satisfaction at the players he has brought in and indicated that the club’s business in the transfer window is over.
The likes of Younes Belhanda, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Henri-Bedimo-c16040 and Remy Cabella were in the shortlists of many European clubs and La Paillade did well in holding on to their star players. The club managed to keep 90 % of its workforce intact and Girard has
thanked Laurent Nicollin for that.
Though the club lost the likes of Olivier Giroud (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Geoffrey-Dernis-c14535 (Stade Brestois), Montpellier were able to sign a few players who Girard feels can adapt to their new surroundings.
“We lost Olivier Giroud and Geoffrey Dernis who were very important to the title. But we can say that we have strengthened the workforce by taking four players – Congre (Toulouse), Mounier (Nice), Charbonnier (Angers) and Herrera (Union Espanola).”
While talking about the arrival of Argentine striker Emanuel Herrera, Girard said that the 25-year-old will naturally have to live up to the standards of Olivier Giroud who did so much to the club’s cause last season.
Girard says that he always knew that Giroud will leave the club and added that he feels that Herrera will do well for his new club because Argentineans are always good at adapting to new surroundings.
“It is always difficult. He (Giroud) was our spearhead. Emanuel Herrera comes from a very good Chilean team. He scored goals in the Copa Libertadores and seems ready to adapt to our football, as often is the case with the Argentines.”
Girard even compared Herrera to Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain and says that he expect great things from the former Union Espanola star.
