The 58-year-old is far from pleased with La Paillade’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Rennes on Saturday that has pushed the defending champions to 16th in the league
The reigning French champions are off to a worst possible start in the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign and have won only twice in the league so far. The Saturday’s defeat was MHSC’s 5th of the season and things aren’t looking good for the club from
Southern http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
And coach, Rene Girard, feels that his side was far from its best against Les Rouges et Noirs at the weekend and they allowed the opposing team to take control of the game.
While talking to reporters, the Frenchman stated that Montpellier’s defence was woeful at Route de Lorient, and his side failed to test the hosts on Saturday. The coach added that La Paillade gifted Rennes goals and it’s a real moment of concern for everyone
at the club.
“We were ineffective in defence and in attack, we gifted them goals, and it's a real shame.”
Girard said that there are no excuses regarding Montpellier’s 5th defeat of the season and nothing is going their way at the moment. However, the coach feels that there were some moments of brilliance from his side and a number of chances were
created on the pitch without a positive outcome.
“The result was in keeping with how our season has been going, and there's not much to say. It's a shame because we put in a lot of effort and we created chances but in the end it came to nothing.”
The 58-year-old said that it is useless to blame one or two players for the defeat and everyone needs to take responsibility for the poor showing against Rennes.
The coach added that Montpellier need to start winning matches soon if they want to achieve something this season and players need to work really hard in order to get positive results in the upcoming games.
“There are many reasons that could explain our shakiness but ultimately we didn't take our chances when we should have. We need to work, work, work. We need our players to step up and not back down. We need to get going.”
