Rene Tosoni's grand slam helps Minnesota Twins defeat Kansas City Royals 7-4 – MLB Update
Rene Tosoni hit a grand slam on Tuesday, September 27 to help the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 7-4 at Target Field.
Minnesota Twins put an extra effort to avoid defeat in the second of the three-game series after the Royals won the opener 7-3.
Rene Tosoni’s grand slam came in the sixth inning just when it was needed the most. Given the fact that the Twins have lost 99 games in this season, they will be the second team in the franchise history which has lost more than 100 games.
With six strike-outs in over six innings that he pitched, Anthony Swarzak gave up 10 hits and allowed two runs to contain the Kansas City Royals’ offence and to pave the way for the defence to get charged up.
Sean O'Sullivan of the Kansas City Royals proved expensive for the team. Pitching five innings, he had an ERA of 7.25 as he barely got one strike-out, allowing six runs and nine hits against a seemingly resurgent Twins’ offence.
After Lorenzo Cain scored a single against Swarzak, Chris Parmelee hit a homer in the second inning to level the score for the Twins. Denard Span and Ben Revere of the Twins simultaneously hit singles to take the lead to 3-1 which was brought to 3-2 by Salvador
Perez in the sixth inning.
Once Sean O`Sullivan came on the mound in the bottom of the sixth, Rene Tosoni hit a huge grand slam, taking the Minnesota Twins’ lead to 7-2, giving the team a huge boost. With a .202 average, Tosoni has scored 20 runs in this season in the 59 games he
has played so far.
Swarzak then pitched a scoreless seventh and Glen Perkins went for a scoreless eighth inning. With the lead to their favour, the Minnesota Twins tasked Joe Nathan to pitch the ninth inning for the team.
Jarrod Dyson hit a sacrifice fly and Billy Butler singled to left to try to reverse the tide. However, they ultimately failed as Nathan sent the others packing to finish the game with a 7-4 victory for the Twins.
