Reneesgotzip romped to a massive victory in the Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita
The 3-year-old filly, Reneesgotzip, showed on 15 January, 2012, that she literally got zip, as the maiden winner literally burst into the graded stakes ranks and destroyed her competition as ruthlessly as one can.
The Lanni Family Trust owned filly, under jockey Corey Nakatani, was too good for the Grade 2, $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes' field at Santa Anita Park.
Breaking her maiden last month, the Peter Miller trained filly started her career over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track on 18 December, 2011, going at about six furlongs under Corey Nakatani.
She easily downed six furlongs with a winning time of 1 minute and 9.05 seconds. Making her first start on dirt in the Santa Ynez Stakes, Reneesgotzip got hustled after she drew the inside post.
However, Nakatani found a way out of traffic and set the pace over Painted Woman and Rowdy Gal. The winning duo still raced close to the rail, while carving fractions of 22.31 seconds for the opening quarter mile and 45.06 seconds for the half mile marker in the six and a half furlong race.
Rounding the bend, Reneesgotzip had to be on her toes as Rowdy Gal came powering down, but the daughter of City Zip, out of mare No Dress Code by Distorted Humor, Reneesgotzip spurted away and opened up a clear advantage in the stretch.
The Kentucky bred filly by the mid stretch led Painted Woman by four lengths, and increased the gap at all times, as she finally hit the wire to defeat the late running Made to Love Her, by 7 ¾ lengths, and set the record of winning the Santa Ynez by a massive margin, which no filly has achieved since 1964.
"She was a little green coming to the quarter pole today," said Nakatani, who has gotten to know the filly better while working her in the mornings for Miller.
"She shied and drifted out so I shook her up right there and she responded."
Miller said that he would like to stretch out Reneesgotzip, and maybe in her upcoming races, she might go 1 1/16 miles or 1 1/8 miles, but the focus will still remain on dirt.
