Renegade/pure stock question for dirt track racers?

I got into dirt trackin' about 2 months ago. so far I'm doin' pretty good. but the cars just not fast enough to run up front. its not so slow that im last. I havn't finished last yet. I usually run in the middle of the pack when I'm pushin' the car as hard as it'll go. I'm runnin' I bone stock short block chevy 350. what are the more significant things I can do to it for power/speed?

keep in mind I'm runnin' two tracks & one requires a restrictor plate, and the cars a little under weight for both. so once the cars legal it'll be even slower.
