Renewing IP Address Problems?

Hello, I just got my dell laptop back from best buy a couple day ago, but when I tried to connect it to my dad's wireless rotor it saids I have limited or no connectivity, and then when I try to repair it, it saids that it can't renew my IP address, I've tried using the 'ipconfig/release' trick but it comes bask saying:

"No operation can be preformed on Local Area Connection while it has it's media disconnected"

Any idea what that could mean? And what should I do to fix it?

I have had this problem before. The best fix is to click on start, right click on my computer and left click on properties. Left click on the hardware tab and left click on device manager. Scroll down to network adapters and locate the one that says wireless. Right click on the adapter and left click on uninstall. It may ask you if you are sure, click yes. After the unistallation has completed restart the computer. It will reinstall the driver for the adapter after the computer has restarted. If you had this card previously configured with passwords for other wirless router SSIDs, they will all be deleted.  Good luck.
