Renewing a long stay visa in France?

Can it be done from within France or would I have to go back to my home country?

Usually, when you have a temporary valid visa to work in France, you can ask for a renewal (prolongation) at the Prefecture directly in France in the department where you have your adress But this renewal can be refused and it also depends if you have a job, the type of visa you have, and if you ask for an extension before the expiry of your visa or not.

In all cases, it is not sure that you will have your renewal. In those cases, you will have to leave the french territory.

For most europeans, you don't need any visa in work in France, it is much easier.

that does not exist,if you are there for work of study,you must get the card,

if you are on a tourist visa? there is NO extension available,
