Benjamin Corgnet has expressed his desire to seek a move away from Dijon following the club’s relegation to the Ligue 2.
Olympique Lyonnais have been following the midfielder for more than two months but have not made an official approach for the player so far. Les Gones already have players who can play in the similar position and signing Benjamin from Dijon is not their
priority at the moment.
Bernard Lacombe, Special advisor to Lyon president, stated that the club is indeed interested in attaining the services of Corgnet but is not in the position to sign the player right now.
While talking to reporters, the Frenchman said that Les Gones are interested in Benjamin Corgnet but the club already has several players who can play in the similar position where he plays.
“Yes, we are interested in Corgnet. He is a player any team would love to have in their ranks. But the problem is that we have Grenier and Gourcuff playing in the same position. It would be unwise to sign a player like Corgnet without guaranteeing him regular
football."
Stade Rennais are poised to take the advantage of the player’s uncertain situation and are reportedly readying a bid for the midfielder.
According to The Progress, Rennes are very interested in acquiring the services of the player as they seek to build onto their form from the last season. However, Les Rouges et Noirs need to sell players before they can bring new ones.
Rennes were expecting bids for their star players, Yann M’Vila and Brahimi. But the players are still at the club that has prevented the club from signing new players this summer.
As things stand, Benjamin Corgnet is stuck with Dijon for the time being. However, there is still time and anything can happen until the end of transfer window.
The 25-year-old was an integral part of the Corsican side last season. The Frenchman managed to make 40 appearances for the recently relegated club in all competitions scoring 9 goals in the process.
