Rennie ready to give all for Edinburgh
Ross Rennie has aid that he is ready to give his all for Edinburgh in the new season after the faith the club have shown him.
The flanker has been out of the side for an extended period due to a bad right knee injury. There were doubts if he would ever play the game again but he says the club were vital in convincing him to work hard through his rehabilitation program.
Rennie has talked of the very kind way that the coaches at the club constantly checked on his health and fitness. He says this made him feel valued and respected during the time he was off of the field and now he is ready to fly out of the traps when the season starts.
It could be difficult for Rennie to make the kind of impression that he may be hoping to make. This is because he has been out of the side for a very long time and they have adapted accordingly. However, this does not ignore the obvious number of benefits that arise from the club effectively getting a new player.
Tough task
The first tough task on the agenda for Rennie will be proving that he is fully fit and raring to go. He will have to use a few pre-season matches to do this but his time is limited.
He has only just started training and playing again after his injury. It's still not perfectly clear whether his new re-structured knee is going to be able to cope with the stress and strains that a long series of matches places on this part of the body.
He's also got to show the club that he can be an influence in the first team. they have learnt how to play without him in the side and he will now have to fit back in to the shape of the team as opposed to the team playing around him.
Rennie said recently "last year was a battle involving several niggles which, hopefully, I have now overcome. Throughout a difficult period I was handled superbly. I could have been thrown back in once I was passed fit but, instead, Edinburgh, Rob Moffat and others looked after me really, really well."
Positives
You cannot ignore the huge positives surrounding this news because there were serious doubts if Rennie would ever play again. Knee injuries have ended careers and the player would have been severely depressed at times. His friends and coaches at the club would have seen this and there will be a general lift around the side now that he's back playing and training.
Rennie added "with hindsight it was a bit of a pain sitting out so much because the gaps between games were sometimes too big because of the way the fixtures fell. It should be different in the weeks ahead, though. This time around, Edinburgh not only have a bigger squad but things have been freshened up with a lot of younger players."
Betting Advice
Rennie is going to play a big role at some point during the season for the team. As a flanker he will often be in the positions where a player is more likely to score. However, take things match by match because there is no guarantee that he will be in the side for more than two or three games at a time.
Edinburgh are not the strongest team in the Magners League if you were thinking of backing them. They're a good outside bet but don't part with life changing amounts of money.
