Renny Richmond wins Men’s 100m butterfly title – 2011 Speedo Junior National Championships
Renny Richmond of LAH-HI won the gold medal of the Men’s 100m butterfly meet on the third day of the 2011 Speedo Junior National Championships on Wednesday, August 10, in Palo Alto, California, USA.
Richmond overpowered the efforts of his fellow swimmers and submitted a wonderful time of 53.88 seconds for the golden crown. With his scintillating effort, he remained 4.06 seconds above the world record of 49.82 seconds, owned by Michael Phelps of USA
in 2009. He was also 3.66 seconds slower than the US record of 50.22 seconds, also made by Phelps in 2009.
Richmond was chased by Clark Smith of DSA-CO, who was just 0.09 seconds slower than the gold medallist and reported in a time of 53.97 seconds. Smith was in a lead of 0.51 seconds over his following swimmer, Matthew Josa of MAC-NC, who stood on the victory
stand for bronze medal, with a timing of 54.48 seconds.
Meanwhile, Josa edged out his closest competitor, Jack Lane of DYNAGA, with a marginal lead of 0.30 seconds and Lane settled as the fourth fastest swimmer of the race, with a timing of 54.78 seconds. Next was Reid Elliott of WFLYST, who remained 0.05 seconds
away from the fourth finisher and earned the rank of fifth finest position of the butterfly swim, with a timing of 54.83 seconds.
Meanwhile, Gray Umbach of TWSTGU transpired as the sixth best swimmer of the event, as he remained only 0.33 seconds behind Elliott and concluded his swim in a time of 55.16 seconds. He was trailed by Peter Brumm of MAC-NC, who ended his swim after 0.18
seconds behind Umbach and clocked a time of 55.34 seconds. Logan Heck was sighted as the last swimmer of the 100m swim, as he stayed 0.25 seconds behind Brumm and produced a time of 55.59 seconds.
The arena became excited with the furious swims of all participants in the 100m butterfly, while they also appreciated the unmatchable swims of podium finishers. Furthermore, the championship will conclude on August 12, after the conclusion of all swimming
events.
