Hi,

I am planning to move to Wellington (From Pakistan) in June. I am worried about renting a proper place in reasonable price in Wellington (Central Wellington area preferably). Different sites including trademe.co.nz lists very expensive rentals that are quite ordinary. I am looking to find an independent apartment/house/flat within 150-300 $NZ per week, but it seems difficult. Is there anyone who can suggest anything about this? I am really very worried..

  1. You are unlikely to find a place in central wellington for the lower end of that budget. You could probably find a studio/one bedroom apartment for around the $250 - $300 mark but it wouldn't be fantastic. If you are willing to share, or to live further out you may have more luck. Put simply, either your budget needs to increase or your sphere of where you wish to live needs to increase. Wellington is relatively small and you are limiting yourself to quite a small number of properties by only wanting to be in or near central wellington.

One area to look into would be brooklyn. It is about a 20 minute walk uphill but it is close to the CBD (central business district).

Oh, and keep checking trademe but also note that some of those properties are through rental agents. That could increase the cost somewhat but if you follow the links to their own websites you may find you have a wider range of properties to look at.

  2. At that price  - you'll be lucky.

But try the Accommodation and House Rental sections of the Yellow pages.
