I rent one , room at my brothers house. He increased my rent to $400/month. At the same time, I pay a storage fee because nothing in room is mine. All my stuff is in boxes, dresser has his and spouses things in it. I don't pay utilities and only recently started eating here. What should I do???

  1. I would move elsewhere because $400 is way too much for what you are getting. A one bedroom efficiency would be better.

  2. You should discuss the problem with your brother and his wife to see what you all can work out.  You are very fortunate to find $450/month rent where everything is furnished including your meals, a place to do your laundry, air conditioning, heat, water, electricity, telephone, a TV,  a yard to stroll around in, a parking place for your car, insurance on your personal belongings and other comforts that are found in a home.

You need to start saving money until you have enough to pay a deposit plus the first and last months rent for your own apartment.  Then you can have all the space you need.

  3. you'd be paying alot more if you owned a house or rented else where. rent is always adjusted due to increase in property taxes and insurance.
