I appreciate some of the answers that are coming in on my original question I posted about 1/2 hour ago. There are a few points I need to clear up though. I have lived in the house about six months. The new owner (that bought the house at the foreclosure auction) wants to continue leasing the house to me. He does, however, want July's rent to be paid to him even though I have already paid it to the previous leasing company. I guess I am just trying to find out if I have any recourse against the leasing company or the previous owner (who won't respond to voicemails) or both to get July's rent payment back.

  1. OOOO unless you talk to a lawyer or take him to small claims court you may be out of luck. People are dirty and don't care!!! He is out of the situation now so probably wont call you back or acknowledge that you gave him that rent, that's where small claims come in, if you have a receipt then you will probably win. Sorry for your troubles hope you get it cleared up!!!!!

  2. If you've been making payments directly to the leasing company, you may be able to go after them for your money you paid in July and security deposit.

I would file a small claims against both the landlord and the leasing company.  Try to talk to them first.  You may also want to look into filing a complaint with the licensing division, if property managers are required to hold a license in your area.
