  1. Because rates vary so much from one company to another the key is to get as many quotes as possible from various companies.

There's a free on-line service that can help you at http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2952034-1039...

You fill out one simple on-line form and they provide you with multiple quotes from several companies. This beats calling agent after agent only to get quotes from the same insurance companies.

    Hope this helps!

  2. I usually say "find a local independent agent" - but I've been seeing Allstate advertise (in Texas) for $81 per YEAR!!

That's pretty cheap......and I would be sure to compare it with some other companies!

Not too sure as to what you GET for $81!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  3. You mean, you're renting a unit and you want to get renters insurance?  Or you own a rental house, and you want to insure it? Or you own a major rental property?

If it's the first, go with the company that writes your car insurance - the discount off the car insurance will likely more than pay for the renter's coverage.  If it's the second, go with the agent that writes the coverage for the house you live in, that's the cheapest way to go.  If it's the third, you're likely still better off with the agent that writes your personal insurance.  Rental properties are high loss, high maintenance, low commission properties, and can be hard to place.  Or rather, not too hard to place, but many companies don't want them, so the ones that do charge more.
