Rental car? age?

Hi,

My mom said she'll rent me a car from hertz. so my friends and I could go to montreal for 4 days....but she said she wasn't going...Doesn't she have to be present in the car driving...when we pass over the boarder of canada? (we live in michigan, and I'm 19) the oldest in the car will be 22 yrs old....we are thinking about taking turns driving but i don't like want to go to jail or anything lol

Most rental car agencies make the minimum age to rent a car at 25. If your between 21-25 they usually charge you a ridiculous surcharge. (my cousin was 23 and had to rent a car and the surcharge was $65 a day - more than the car was per day) So that being said, even if your mom does rent a car, you, nor any of your friends, can drive it. If you get into an accident, you won't be covered under the rental companies insurance - your liable for any damage costs. If you get pulled over, it will be like driving without insurance, you won't be able to do it. You probably won't be able to pass into Canada, and most rental car agencies wont let you take it out of the country anyways. If you do, they will find out.

This cannot be done and you cannot drive it because you are underage, this would be completely illegal.....

Hi yall!  You can have your mom add you to the rental policy. You can take a risk by driving the vehicle if your not on the rental policy, if you get pulled over by cops you will just get a ticket, they wont impound the car or you will go to jail. Every car including rental have insurance, so if you get pulled over just show them the proof of insurance in the glove box, wheather your not on the rental policy, the insurance policy is still valid. The only problem is that if you do get into a car accident you will have to fork out the money for expenses. As long as you have a drivers license you can cross the broader fine with the rental. Everytime I go to Mexico I use my partners mom vehicle, which am not the owner or on the insurance policy, all they ask is whos car is this, my friends mom, and the check you passport...yeah you need you passport now to comeback into the US.
