I am trying to find in the Renter's Rights book, but cannot find, if it is a law that when a house is rented whether or not the landlord is liable to have coverings over the windows, such as shades, curtains or blinds. I am in Michigan and I am not sure if the laws are different state to state. Thank you for your time.

  1. shades curtains and/or blinds are considered decorations and NOT a requirement to rent a house.. Now if there were NO windows at all then they would have to do something..

  2. http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(xwtbyi5...  This is the link to the Michigan State Landlord and Tenancy Act question.  Yes, there are differences between States.

    All the best to you.

  3. I keep blinds in my rentals as well as rods for curtains. I have never furnished curtains or drapes. I don't know if there is a law that says I have to. You might research landlord/tenant laws in your state which you can do on line.

  4. If there is a requirement for the landlord to provide window coverings (highly unlikely) it would be found in your city or town's local housing codes and ordinances.

  5. The laws vary by state, but generally window covering are only required by section 8, but even that it is not required by all states.

  6. Laws are different state to state.
