We are renting a truck for a move, from Penske. They insist we have to get special insurance for their truck-it's around 110 .00. They say our private vehicle insurance does not cover that. Is that true??

  1. Well, I would recommend getting the insurance.  I rented a truck (from a different company) and hit a parked car.  My own insurance covered the damage to the other car, but the insurance I purchased thru them covered the damage to the truck.  Boy am I glad that I got it!!!

  2. True.   Personal auto policies only carry over onto PRIVATE PASSENGER type vehicles - not trucks.

But I think you're silly for asking Penske, or even here - GO ASK YOUR AGENT!!!!

  3. Your auto insurance will only cover vehicles up to certain weight limits.  When you take a larger truck and put all your contents in it, you have probably exceeded what is covered under normal insurance.  You will have a commercial exposure.  I would recommend the insurance.  It will keep you insurance out of a claim and will probably give you coverage for contents that your auto policy would not have also.  To be sure check with your insurance agent.  Good Luck.

  4. it depends on the weight of the truck.  your auto policy has limits on it.  if it is a larger truck, then its most likley true.  contact your agent to see what the weight restrictions are.  i used a 10 ft truck and it was covered under my auto, but when i had to use a 20 ft one it was not.

  5. Call your insurance agent it should be covered if not purchase it from your agent, it will be cheaper.
