Rental unit just burned down. need public/claim adjuster?

policy covers 180k, but i dont think we'll get all that. we've been inundated with public/claim adjusters at the property and at our house. are they really necessary?

AND WHY DO THEY DRIVE SUCH NICE CARS? couple of em with cars over $150k.

  1. because they can afford it? Insurance is a business, and there is profit to be made just like with every other business out there.

    You aren't going to get anywhere frustrated that there are a lot of claim adjusters investigating the fire.  They are making sure they have it right.


  2. Don't give away 25% of your settlement, until/unless you have to.

    If you have a total loss, why do you think the policy won't pay out the total limit?  And . . .if it's replacement cost, does it matter, if they pay out enough to totally rebuild it?

    If you rebuild, on a replacement cost policy, they'll pay up to the $180K, to rebuild it.  If you don't want to rebuild, they only pay actual cash value (cost to rebuild less depreciation), less the demolition cost withholding.

    Your agent can explain all this to you.  

    But don't rush out to hire a public adjuster.  These guys are ambulance chasers - and who knows, you might get the whole $180K.  Wouldn't you hate to have signed 25% of it over to the PA for no good reason.
