A friend of mine, and her boyfriend, split up after they moved in together in a private rented acomidation. He signed himself off the contract and bought himself out by paying a month's rent.My friend received a phone call from her estate agents, telling her that if she wants to sign herself out, she too has to pay a month's payment. They said just in case they won't be able to rent out the house within 3 months. Is that right?.

  1. Legally you can not "sign yourself out" of a contract, but if the agents are willing to do this, and she wants out, then she could always tell them to keep the deposit in lieu of the months rent, BUT she must get it in writing, or they can denigh it once she leaves.

  2. Yes that is perfectly legal.

  3. There are too many details that you haven't added.  It is not always "automatic" to "sign yourself off the contract".  That's why it's called a contract. /

  4. It's a fair deal.
