  1. The key to a proper search for this coverage is to ask "Will you allow me to sign an animal exclusion for the liability portion of the coverage?"  This way, everything ELSE on the policy works like it's supposed to - just NO COVERAGE if your dog BITES someone......they don't' care about the dog crapping on the carpet as that isn't covered anyway.

I was writing a homeowner policy and we were almost done and the guy asks "What about my Rottweilers?"  Same deal - animal exclusion on the liability!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  2. Several of the big direct writers will write any dog without a bite history.  Try State Farm then Farmers.  Foremost does not write renters policies.

  3. don't mention a pitt bull.   Just get a content policy

  4. Try Foremost, they write any dog as long as it has not bitten or shown ANY aggressive behavior.  Some states do not allow animal liability exclusions.  Also NEVER lie on an application for insurance because if there was ANY claim & the company finds out you have a pit bull since before you applied for insurance (& it is easy to find out when you got it - they would just check with the town or county when you licensed the dog), it is material misrepresentation, they will deny the claim & void the policy & this will follow you to every other insurance policy you ever buy.

Another route may be Surplus Lines or your state's fair plan.  Surplus lines can & will exclude animal liability (since they are not licensed in the state, they can essentially do whatever they want to).  Your state's fair plan may or may not offer liability coverage.

Good luck to you, you will have a tough time finding insurance if your state does not allow animal exclusions.

  5. You might check with Farmers or their subsidiary company Foremost.  I am have heard they will provide Homeowners and mobile home coverage with a pit bull, in some states they will require an exclusion for the dog, and some states they will even provide liability. Hope this helps.

  6. In Ontario it would not matter, you still can't keep one.

I have never been asked if I have a pit bull when applying for liability insurance.
