Renting in AZ - pay rent on 1st keys on 15th?

Question

So I am moving at Arizona for graduate school as are my other two roommates. Our August rent is due on the first of the month but we will not be arriving to move in until the 15th of the month.

However, our landlord does not want to send us the keys in the mail - she wants to wait and give them to us when we arrive. This is inconvenient because we are driving from different parts of the country and will probably will be arriving late in the evening (11pm). I was just thinking since we are paying for the entire month shouldn't she sent the keys to us to have access of the entire month?

She's just being smart; it's bad security to send keys through the mail.  I'm sure you can make arrangements to get the keys to you when you arrive.
