  1. no hidden costs, just the amount advertised. I have rented there and in other parts of Australia, it does not change with the area. Sydney is Big, Bad, and will scare the S**t out of most people. if you come from Melbourne, and try Sydney, you will adapt ok, but from anywhere else - you will hate Sydney. I have lived all over Sydney, and I can live in any area and adapt because of growing up in Sydney with its diversity, from slum to super rich, from nice old fashioned area's that are changing to catch up like Penrith, to s****. up the *** class mossman, the people change with each suburb you drive through.

I recommend if you come from a country town you stick to the outer west to north west. The freeway system can be a fast way to get to Airport, and city within 45 min. max. The people are working class that dont judge you or intimidate you. northern beaches and eastern suburbs, are for local generation to generation only !!! trust me, they will tell it to you.

Southern suburbs are not bad, but south west are for people used to gun fire, shootings, robbery, house invasions, car jacking, and general run of the mill minority groups -  you will need and armored truck to take a tour!! I have been surrounded twice because I'm white by Arab gangs with weapons!!

    In any case, good luck

  2. Renting in Sydney, Australia has recently gone crazy, the prices went rocket high the beginning of this year. I was so shocked when I got here this March.

I used to pay 340perweek for a miniature studio in a suburb called Kensington. The same unit cost 380 this year!

  3. rlly expensive.

my sis rents a tiny, broken down one room apartment for $400

( but to be fair it is on bondi beach)

  4. I don't get it. It seems expensive like h**l.

I don't see one room to rent for less than EUR 1,200/month (for more than 1 month, else it's much more expensive) and not even on the shore, but in the North-West of Sydney.

In the East of the European Union, in my country, you can buy now a terrible 2-3 rooms apartment at the price of a ground+1-floor villa in USA (with much much many rooms), and still in my country's capital to rent a one room apartment is < than EUR 400/month (3 times cheaper than in Sydney).
