Renting out my home, mortgage advice

I currently have a morgage on my flat, im thinking of moving in with my boyfriend and renting my flat out, would i have to change to a buy to let morgage?

  1. I'm not in the right country for this, so take that into account on my answer.  Still, where I live (USA) you pretty much put the mortgage in place and so long as you are still the owner you can keep the original mortgage even if it is no longer owner occupied.  I'd suspect things must work the same most places (maybe everywhere) as people plans change so frequently and its so much work to get a new mortgage.  Of course check your mortgage documents carefully to make sure there is nothing in there forbidding it, and it would be nice to get confirmation from someone where you live.


  2. I would suggest you call your mortgage company and ask if you are allowed to rent out your house.  Some mortgages are only for owner occupied properties.  The only way to find out for sure about your mortgage is to call your lender and ask.
