Renting out my house (Scotland)....?

What are the advantages / disadvantages of renting out your house without an agent?

Last time we used an agent we had a lot of trouble with the agent, plus had to pay them a lot of money, but we are not sure whether to do it without an agent.

You can hire an agent just to find a renter, and then manage it yourself. Or, you can get a property management agreement with an agent that includes monthly maintence, collection,and other benefits. However, if do the former, you will have to deal with the renter yourself in collecting rents, etc. If you do hire one, do spell out exactly what is going to be done, and for how much ahead of time in the contract.. all of that is negoiable.

I would not risk not having an agent.At least if you get the right one your home will be well looked after.
