Are food pellets a substitue for greens and crickets? The one I'm getting is a baby, and I want to know EVERYTHING about it when I adopt it.

  1. i use pellets and Cyran (my dragon) loves them! the only promblem is that he needs to be trained to eat them. what i do is just put a little in a bowl and leave it. when hes hungary he'll eat.u should put a little greens in his bowl put they can substitute live food.

  2. pellets should NEVER be a substitute for fresh greens and live food, if you going to use them its best to just use it as a salad topper like i do or something. =)

  3. no, young beardies do much better if fed a diet of black crickets whilst growing, start on small and increase size as it grows, remember anything to large can get stuck and create a problem so if your not sure stay on small crickets untill you are, dust in calcium and vitamin supplements, any good reptile shop will sell you the right stuff and give you a diet sheet to follow, the right temp, and a uv light are a must, keep temp at about 86 in day and turn it down to about 75 at night. as they get older you can introduce more veggies but they tend not to touch it when very young, tho you can offer it, its great that you want to find out before you get it cos then it will  be happy and healthy. happy beardie time, you,ll love em, they,re great pets and very sociable if you spend time handling them.

  4. Pellets should NEVER be a substitute for fresh vegetables or crickets.

For starters, bearded dragons don't even eat them that much. The pellets are just a healthy snack that the bearded dragon will chow on from time to time. My bearded dragon eats one bite of pellets if a cricket is lucky enough to get on the dish of pellets.

  5. Pellets are a good supplement if he will eat them. Never make them the primary food source, though.
