  1. FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE TABLE IS PURE WOOD . IF IT IS THEN USE AN 220 SAND PAPER TO HELP TAKE OFF THE PAINT ONCE SAND USE ALCOHOL TO CLEAN IT THEN GO AHEAD AND PAINT (SMILE) HOPE THIS HELP .

  2. first, sand the top until its smoth. If the old paint is still on dont bother removing it,just make sure it blends with the rest of the surface.clean dust of surface, semi wet cloth will do.Prime everything using a foam roller because of the smoothness. If not satisfied and for a better job you could sand again.Last step is to paint it again with a foam roller, once or twice depending on the coverage.Use semi gloss or pearl for better washability.Between primer and paint wait 24 hours its best that way because then the primer will grab better and dry properly. Dont rush if you want a good job and nice finish.

  3. its a lot of work repaint a desk if you want it to look good. i would sand it down then repaint it. trust me it will look way better if you do that !

  4. Three things are really important to a good paint job.  Preparation, preparation, preparation!  Sanding will remove the paint.  Use three or so grits of sandpaper, say 100, 150 and 220.  The bumps may be the veneer of the top delaminating.  Repairing those will be quite a chore.  If you need to do that post another question of how to do it.
