My husband has been told that he has detached retinas in both eyes. They are going to do surgery on both eyes at the same time. Is it safe to do them both at the same time?

  1. I worked for a retina specialist for eight years and it is not very common for two retinas to detach suddenly...however she did have one patient who that did happen to and she did not do both surgeries the same day. She repaired the more severe detachment first. If you are unsure about what to do, go see another doctor for a 2nd opinion. Your husband's ophthalmologist should be open to this, however he should do it ASAP. The longer a detached retina is left unrepaired the less chance of vision recovery.  Good luck!
