Repeated blighted ovums?

Hi,

I had my second blighted ovum 3 weeks ago. My first was 5 years ago and i started bleeding at 8 weeks although the baby didn't develop past 6 weeks. The same thing happened this time round only i didn't find out until my 12 week scan. I have no children and am scared i am never going to be a mum. I was wondering if any of you out there could share your blighted ovum stories with me. I would especially like to hear from women who went on to have babies or women who had testing to find out the cause of their blighted ovums as i am am currently waiting for the results of my D&C to come back so my doctor can do some testing to find out if there is a reason my babies don't develop past 6 weeks.

Thank you

  1. First of all, I am sorry for your loss. I recently suffered a blighted ovum and I know how awful it is. I already have a child, and I had a great pregnancy with him, so it isn't necessarily the case that something is 'wrong'. It can happen to anyone and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem with you or your partner.

It's good that your doctor is running some tests, because a lot of doctors won't do anything until after the third miscarriage.

It could just be that you've been really unlucky and it had been a random and cruel twist of fate that you've suffered two in a row. Statistics show that even women who have had 4 miscarriages in a row have good chance of their next pregnancy being successful.

I hope that it's good news from your testing and hope that everything works out for you in the future.

  2. First, I'm sorry for your losses.  I know how hard it is.  Last month, I lost one too.  I was also diagnosed with a blighted ovum at 9 weeks.  I already have three children and then had this happen, so it isn't necessarily that something is making it happen.  Sometimes things just go wrong.

I also have a church friend who had two blighted ovums and a miscarriage after having three children and three uneventful pregnancies.  She's due to deliver her last child in 8 weeks now.  So she went on to have a completely normal pregnancy after all of that.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.  Baby dust!

  3. I can't help with your question, but I am so sorry for your loss. I really hope they find out what's going on and can help you. The best people are helping you now, I am sure you will be a mom. Good luck and all the best for the future x*x
