Question:

Repeating dream question?

I work in a conflict environment, (used to be law enforcement), and for a long time I had a very vivid dream about getting hurt. Always the same dream. It was not a situation I had ever actually been in physically, setting or incident wise.

Is there a reason you imagine a circumstance like that, and what can you do to get rid of it? Or is it actually a premonition that should be avoided?

  1. I don't know why people have re-occurring dreams. I had one when i was young. Anyway...

I think what the dream is doing is letting off stream or stress of your fears of getting hurt. Those could be reasonable concerns so understanding that may help you to complete the path.

A dream is often a 'what if' situation. Like in normal life, worries are a warning. We often assume the worst as a way to prepare ourselves for dangerous situations.  But keep in mind: don't give much credit to the fear or worries. They are there for a reason but nothing to live by. It can pass.

I once heard something about nightmares. Talk it out to yourself. Maybe while driving to work or whenever. Let your awake mind feel like it's handling it.

I don't think it's a good idea to assume it's a premonition. That's giving credit to the fear, or the potentially worst thing that could happen. Realize it can be Okay.

  2. Your dream sounds like a recurring stress driven event that was the product of your occupation and environment generally - and one that carries a reminder of caution.

You would not have had to have experienced the situation dreamed of for a warning to occur from what your mind has taken in from the environment around you.  In fact, what you had already experienced would not likely be the sort of thing that would take you by surprise.  It seems your mind is alert to those things that may happen yet given the stressful environment of conflict that you apparently work in as a regular thing.

The human mind has a wonderful ability to take in generalized information and synthesize it into vividly clear imagery of what 'might be'.  In the case of the potential negative - where threats exist - this can involve details that you've not actually witnessed or experienced, but that the mind can conceive none-the-less.

In the case of a dream such as you describe it is as if subconsciously you have mulled over the things you have seen and likely gained 'lessons learned' for the future.  What is left in the mind then is a condition rather like 'yes, but...' - a 'what if' thinking process meant to keep you alert to new events based on the subtle things you may have observed and how they could explode into a full-blown problem for you.

In a way you could take such things as premonitions - an advance example of things to watch for.  That said, I would not apply that literally - it is highly unlikely that any such thing as true premonition is happening at all, just the synthesized event as I've described above.  But it can be a message of value in that it may help you observe your duties and the work environment with a keener eye toward new threats to your person.

Why repeating?  Possbly because you have not processed this information in your waking moments in the way I have described.  Perhaps if you keep a diary of these dreams, or if the events are fairly consistent just use your recollection to go over them fully awake and think of how they can be applied to sharpen your observation and readiness on the job.  Do not allow them to become points on which to dwell - that would be a distraction.  But do use them to come to a clinical view of how you can be more alert to the things that may develop beyond your real experiences to-date.

In this way you may be able to avoid such things to some extent - but more importantly, if they do occur you will be better equipped to spot them early and deal with them effectively.  You can take the dream as a gift in that regard to help you be that much more effective and able to safely perform your job.

Once you've processed the dream content in this way it should help resolve some of the inner mind's own anxieties about your 'getting it' about these things and allow the dreams to subside.  It appears then the dreams are your own mind's way of having you attend to these thoughts and bring resolve for your own good, to make the most of what you have observed in a hostile environment, nothing more.

You will have to decide how this may fit and help you in the context that you know better than others can, but hopefully some of this may be of some help to you.

    All the best to you.

  3. it isnt a premonition.

your subconscience is probably worried about getting hurt during your job. so, while you are dreaming, your subconscience thinks of different scenerios where you could get hurt. its not premonitions, nothing to be worried about.

    hope this helped :)

i gave it a star, it was interesting!
