Repelling ants from hummingbird feeders?

How would you keep ants off hummingbird feeders without any chemicals. I was wondering about a home remedy. If you have any suggestions I'd really appreicate it.

I found a gadget at walmart that installs between the top of the feeder and where you hang it.  Its just a little cup device that you fill with water.  it has loops at the top and bottom forhanging the feeder and mounting. Cost like a buck.

It is almost impossible, however putting a little cooking oil on the flower on the feeder slows them down a little..also on the coated wire that you hang them with, the cooking oil will not hurt the humming birds.

I used a big blob of auto grease on the hanger rod. Lasts all season. The ants get to it and stop because they can't negotiate the stickiness. The birds don't touch it because they avoid the rod. You might try petroleum jelly, or other non food like substance.

Ants will not cross a chaulk line, try putting chaulk on the line to the feeder.
