Question:

Repipe copper...what size pipe should i get put in ?

I am going to get my house done with copper pipe? Should i get 3/4 inch and connect to 1/2 inch at the fixtures .. or is 1 inch to 1/2 inch better ?

1400 sq ft house 2 bath rooms 30 feet apart on one level.

washer dryer , kitchen etc..

any ideas ..

  1. Instead of wasting money on the oversized copper, especially the 1", you would be better off with 1/2" with separate runs to the two baths from the entry and hot water heater and with reductions from that.  Toilets and basins do NOT have 1/2" connections - most of the hoses are 3/8" ID or 1/4" ID.  The tub and shower have 1/2" feeds but showers these days are so restricted as to require much less water flow.


  2. Scrap the copper and go with PEX.  This is plastic water lines that connect with compression fittings.  It's much easier to work with and the cost is a fraction compared to copper.  Another pro is installation is a fraction of the time from copper.  It's also just as durable and in some cases better than copper.  

    Have you seen the price of copper pipe lately?  It's outrageous.  I wouldn't pay that much if I didn't have to.
