Texas decides they want to secede from the United States.

Insurrection and rebel activity begin.

The United States being the recognized governing authority moves in to quell the insurrection.

Mexico then begins widescale attacks of targets inside the United States claiming they are just protecting their citizens.

Would the Mexicans be justified and would you support them?

This is the essence of the current Georgian conflict.

Thoughts?

  1. Well said although there are many differences in the situations...Basically, no I do not feel the Mexicans/Russians would be justified.  It is simply a land grab and a reason to fight their enemies who "wrongfully" declared independence.  However, it doesn't matter if it is justified or not, because this is war and there is always 2 sides.  It only matters who wins.  If we want democracy to spread and last, we should help.  Europe should help, it will be there problem quicker than our problem..

  2. how many Texans have Mexican citizenship? 99% of S Osettian have Russian citizenship.

  3. No,

Texas can take care of itself.

Texas won the last battle of the civil war. They can---and should separate from the USA.

  4. It actually is pretty close. Just that the period of time it has been ours is longer, and that the people that live in Texas are either American citizens and use American currency, or people who want to become American citizens.

What reason would texas be seceding for? its been so long that I honestly don't see any reason they would want to secede.

  5. One problem:  The vast majority of residents in Texas are US citizens, not Mexican citizens.  Some (but not all) of the Mexican citizens in Texas are actually illegal immigrants, so they don't count.  Besides that, we could crush Mexico in a matter of days if we went to war with them while Georgia would have a lot more trouble against Russia without outside help.

  6. Flawed analogy for the reason that Georgia was killing 100's of people in South Ossetia after promising there would be talks to determine a self autonous region.

Anyway, the ethnic groups that make up that part of the world have been around far longer than the entire history of the United States, making the whole premise of your argument debatable at best.

  7. Well there are other sides to politics this is great training for Russia's troops they are preparing for war.

  8. I agree with your analogy, actually.  Well done!

  9. Similarities are: Mexico has allowed its citizens to "occupy" US territory by not providing for them.Stalin had Russians settle in Georgian territory. The same ones involved today. The same as what the Chinese are doing today.Having Chinese citizens settle in Muslim communities and in Tibet. What soon follows is that the original language becomes secondary or even outlawed.Sound familiar?

Texas, was once a country, has a treaty with the US. Therefore can legally secede from the US.

  10. This would make more sence take Canada they have a provance that wants to break away Qubec now lets say the US gave all of them citizenship and than the canadian gouverment sent troops there than the US invaded saying we had to protect our citizens....well the rest of the world wouldn't like that at all so why is it ok for Russia to do it to SO I mean if we pulled that the rest of the world would have troops there so fast but yet we won't stop the Russians.....and for those idiot who say 99% of S.O. are Russian citizens how do you think they got them Russia gave citizenships to them inviloation of international law......

  11. Your analogy is good. So are you admitting that the US took the wrong position on Kosovo?. Kosovo belongs to Serbia, but wanted independence. Serbia was the recognized governing authority of Kosovo (Kosovo being a Serbian province). The Serbian government sent its military forces to attack and quell the rebellion by the Kosovo separatists. Then the US went in and bombed the Serbian forces who were attacking the Kosovo separatists. The US then bombed Belgrade (the Serbian capital) that put Serbia to submission. Kosovo is now free, thanks to US help. The incapacitated Serbia was helpless to take Kosovo back. That's how Kosovo won its independence.

So, would had it been more correct if the US had given its support to the Serbian government instead of siding with the Kosovo separatists?.

Now with Georgia, why did the US took the position totally opposite to what it stood for in Kosovo?.

In short, the US did in Serbia exactly what Russia is now doing in Georgia. It the US described its actions in Serbia as legal and justified, then why is it calling Russia's actions in Georgia as illegal and unjustified?. Isn't that an obvious hypocrisy?.

  12. hahaha you should have used CANADA! I was really applauding Russia at first for protecting their citizens from the Georgian president's genocide. I'm tired of the media trying to paint this guy as a nice man who wanted to model his country after America. We would NEVER try to kill our own people for trying to be expats. We wouldn't let them keep the land they were occupying either though...murder would not need to be the solution of course. Russia screwed up though, because after securing South Ossetia they went deeper into Georgia. I think both sides are being really screwed up. And it's really freaking me out because I'm watching Russia become this superpower while we shrink away. They are buying up all kinds of energy and oil reserves while we whine about polar bears and global warming.
