Question:

Replace heatsink fan on CPU.

Heat sink and fan seem to be in good shape, but one plastic catch, holding fan and heat sink to CPU, is broken. When I released the remaining 3 catches, I discovered some kind of paste between the CPU and the aluminum heat sink. I am guessing this is heat sink paste. My question is: Do I need to replace this old "paste", or just add some more. If the old paste needs to be removed, can I safely scrape it from the CPU and heat sink with a razor blade or should I use some kind of solvent.
