Replace power cable on Sebo X4 vacuum claenaer

Question

Purchased replacement Sebo power cable, but having removed the crosshead s***w from the aluminum handle shaft cannot figure out how to gain access as the plastic handle will not withdraw from the metal shaft. Is there a trick to dismantle the handle assembly?
