  1. Both the shifter cable and the throttle cable have safety limit switches that must be adjusted correctly.  Get a service manual for the unit you are working on, it should have an explanation of the process.

  2. I bet $10 it's the neutral safety switch -- it's the only thing in common between the start circuit and the shift/throttle cables.

If power's not getting to the starter solenoid, and the main harness fuse is good, it's gotta be that switch.

Can't tell ya exactly where it is without knowing your boat/motor/helm combination, but somewhere in close proximity to the shift lever is a push-button momentary switch -- held down by the shfter when it's in neutral.

Traditionally, that circuit is a yellow wire with red tracer.

  3. more than likely, your having a problem with your shifter cable. I just replaced mine and and the boat wouldn't start. ...After taking off the compartment where you you put your hand on and move up or down to neutral, engage, go fast...e.t.c... I noticed that I forgot to put back the little hard rubber piece that looks like a washer with a slit in it over the end of the shifter cable to keep it in place...

so every time you try to engage the boat, the shifter cable comes loose.... and the boat wont even start

  4. More then likely the cables are not adjusted properly and are not in the neutral position , so the motor will not start.Make certain they are adjusted properly, then try again.
