I'm making a pie for a man who just had open heart surgery. His favorite pie is lemon merguine. I make all my pies from scratch ( including the crust ) I'm making this as healthy as i can without changing the taste. Is there a healthier alternative i could use in my crust besides shortening?

I love my crust and I want to impress this man (he is my boyfriend's dad) please help !

  1. animal or vegetable fat... better use vegetable fat.

  2. Maybe Crisco?  I think margarine would make your crust funny - i never bake with it.  And I make my crust with just butter, flour, salt and water...  So - I'd vote Crisco, they gotta have a sorta healthy version of it out

  3. Margarine called Smart Balance

Smart Balance also has oil and spray.
