Question:

Replacement glasses?

I need to get myself some replacement glasses as mine are falling appart. My question is, if I head to my opticians, with my current glasses, will they have any way of looking and the lenses in the frames and working out what sort of lenses they have in them? If so this would save me the cost of having to have my eyes re-tested again. I would like to get a different style of glasses too, so it would not be a case of taking the lenses out and just fitting them into an identical frame.

  1. Optomotrists and Opticians can measure the prescriptions of your lenses.

If your vision is blurry and artificially corrected it is changing all the time. More than likely your vision has gotten worse from your current glasses. You'll want to know your current level of blur(prescription), and the optomotrists have to make sure you meet driving requirements.

  2. I don't know how they do it, but yes, I think they can tell alot from looking at your current glasses.  You don't say how long ago you had your last eye exam.....if it's been a few years you may want to re-think this and get it done again.  Eye doctors can tell alot about your general health by looking into your eyes.  Regular testing for glaucoma is also very important.   If your prescription hasn't changed much they may be able to just put your current lenses into new frames.
